You Are Free

I had this job once where I would constantly tell my wife that I was a slave. I was going in at 6 AM so I could leave at 5 PM. I felt like management could never be pleased. Felt under paid and under appreciated. I was a slave in my own mind.

Galations 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

I was way off base. I was not a slave. What I was doing was trying to work hard for the people paying me to do the job. I wanted them to be happy with my work, and hopefully, complete something that would give me satisfaction when I looked at it.

Christ set us free from the real slavery. The slavery of sin and death. 1 Corinthians 15:3 tells us “that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures”. That event alone frees us from slavery. Nothing else in this world can do that, or enslave us.

I was breaking the final instruction from that verse. I was not standing firm and I sure did submit to the yoke of slavery. I picked myself up after a while, finished the project, and let this sink in.

As we get closer to Christmas, I hope you meditate on this verse. Commit to memory, and remember it as we enter that day of celebration of the birth of Christ.
